Examples

Those on the right to a good job of pointing out that gun control does not reduce gun deaths.  See: Chicago

But they don't do a good job of pointing out how bad democrats' economic ideas are.  If democrats had good economic ideas, then Detroit would still be one of the great cities of the world.  Like it was before the democrats took it over.

While talking to democrats we should make the point, much more often, that if the democrats' polices resulted in good things, then Detroit would still be a great city.

Can you point to a city that went from one of the greatest in the world to a scum-hole after fifty years of near total republican politics?

When someone calls our economic situation caused by the free market, then let them know that the Federal Reserve determines monetary policy and interest rates.  How can we have a free market if a government entity controls money supply and finances?

More Gun Debating

John Lott recently debated (by "debated" I mean "got talked over and ignored) CNN show host Piers Morgan.

See it here.

Two things that Piers kept repeating were the number of people killed by guns and asking "how many people need to be killed by guns before pro-gun people shut up and go away agree with whatever Piers says?"

Two questions for Piers:

1. How many mass murderers need to go out of their way to kill in "gun free zones" before you realize that "gun free zones" are where mass murders target?
With just one single exception, the attack on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.

-John Lott
2.  (Source for following)
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany  established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China  established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
How many murders, with guns, occur in this country?  More, or less, than 56 million?

And a question for you CNN viewers: Do you think that CNN is unbiased and non-partisan? If "yes," then I direct your attention to Piers Morgan.

Cream of the Crop

I've been reading a few things in about men only wanting a certain percentage of women and women only wanting a certain percentage of men.

Consecutive comments to this post:
TMG

I also suspect that many of these women have very inflated perceptions of their own value and the kind of man they “deserve.” Unfortunately, there’s only so many guitar-playing hedge fund managers and hunky ex-con bikers with tattoos and a trust fund to go around.

Plenty of men would love to be married, but not to a “modern” woman. If they could only find a woman who held herself to a higher moral standard, and could be trusted over the long haul. But as we are constantly reminded, that society went away with our great-grandparents.
It is true that I'd like a women who looks like a model and women want guys who are independently wealthy, etc.

Our society is not in a good position if we all want something that does not exist in numbers sufficient to meet our needs.

Economics is the study of scarce resources, which have alternative uses.

I find it interesting how women think about these issues in the social sciences, like psychology, and more men use economics to ponder these issues.

Lots of behavior can be determined by knowledge of our sexual market value.  Many have written about it before, and I won't repeat it here.

Dr. Helen's post reflects the price fluctuations in the sexual marketplace.  Fewer chaste, thin, women leads to fewer men wanting to marry.

Our societal trend-line has not been looking good for decades.  Captain Capitalism may be right: "Enjoy the decline."

Its not all bad news for us guys.  Apparently the rest of the world is not yet in our societal decline. "Game as you know it is really a Western invention for use on women who no longer use biology or the pursuit of happiness to select mates. World game is nothing more than being a good man who isn’t a pushover."

Feminism, or women's suffrage, or western culture seems to have screwed up our society rather well.

Food Plot Equipment

Many of you who deer hunt may try to plant food plots for your deer.  This is a good idea.  But there are some tools that you should not use.

You could put a food plot in with a rake and a bottle of Round-Up.  A food plot you make with those tools would be good for, I'd say, an hour of one deer's diet.

Using a walk behind tiller or a rear tined tiller will, poorly, create a food plot that is big enough for an afternoon's worth of deer browsing.

You really need to use a tractor or an atv to put in a food plot of any size.  That is a size that will not be totally eaten one afternoon.

My dad and I recently tried to use a rented rear tined tiller to fill in one small hunting plot.  It didn't work well.  It didn't work fast. It didn't do much.

Any time spent on a tool of a lesser size than an atv is a waste of time and a million times the work, for a fraction of the reward.

Find a rental tractor, or atv, or hire someone who owns one of either.  But don't wast your time with the small tools.

Deer Pictures

I finally got around to looking at this weeks trail camera pictures.  Here's what a pitiful food plot looks like with 3 bucks in it.

Trail Camera Pictures

It seems that there are some does and fawns that are regularly visiting the big food plot at my property.

Did you know that fawns have spots?

Or that the bucks are still in velvet?

I have only gotten one picture of a buck bigger than a 1 1/2 so far.  But I've only got one camera out and the big ones do not photographed very often.

On the bright side, most of the green in those pictures is clover, turnips and other brassicas.  They seem to be doing well after not getting rain for almost a two months.

Food Plots without Rain

I visited my hunting property recently to see how the food plots were doing.  I had heard that they had gotten rain earlier in the day.  They hadn't.

For those of you who want to know what clover looks like after a month and a half of 0.15" of total rain the answer is this:
