I spent some time working at my deer hunting property this (and most other) weekend. One thing that I did that I had not in a while was to split firewood.
It turns out that splitting firewood is very enjoyable. You'd think that it would be boring, repetitive , manual labor. But once the logs have been cut to length, the spitting is not bad at all. (Cutting up the trees and throwing the branches on piles is not fun after the 1,000th time, however.)
It seems to me that the trick to splitting is finding a good log to split. The ones where branches left the tree's trunk, etc. do not split very well.
I agree. Splitting wood can be an enjoyable experience. It's great exercise and helps keep my house warm in the winter.
